Sizzling Summer Series
We're all very excited to announce that the Brooklyn Brass Quintet are taking our show on the road twice this summer! First, our Canadian tour from Toronto to Quebec is shaping up to be something quite unique and special. Stay tuned for venue updates and specifics coming soon! Then it's off to Mexico for a multi-week tour, starting in the South near Mexico City, and winding up in Mazatlan! Exact dates coming... stay tuned!
So, what else is new?
I'm glad you asked. We've been hard at work recording. We're currently mastering our first full-legnth CD, entiteld, "Live From New York: The Brooklyn Brass Quintet". The cover looks like this:
It's full of some old favorites, and some new surprises!! Highlights include live performances of Stefan Freund's "Metal" which was written for us (Stefan is an old friend of the quintet from our Eastman days), and David Sampson's "Mourning Music", as well as a Mendelssohn string quartet, a Palestrina Motet, and much, much more! It's really going to be SOMETHING! As soon as it's mastered, we'll be having a CD release concert in Brooklyn... stay tuned!!!
A Little Vocational Vacation
The boys have a little lull in the touring schedule the next few months, but that doesn't mean they're not keeping busy:
John has just started his position as Principal Tuba with the South Bend Symphony in Indiana. John's already been getting rave reviews, and we're all so happy for him. This season has already promised such highlights as Prokofiev's "Lt. Kijé" and Strauss's "Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks".
Mike Gurfield has accepted a temporary position with the Orquestra Sinfónica Sinaloa de las Artes in Culiacán, Mexico. That means Mike will be joining fellow Brooklyn Brass Quintet trumpeter Matthew Mead in the orchestra for the next 2 months. The boys will be playing in the orchestra's chamber music series, as well as the regular concert series, and Matt and Mike will perform Verne Reynolds's "Calls and Echoes" for two unaccompanied trumpets as part of the season series.
Mike Selover just played a week with the San Antonio Symphony as second trombone, and is slated to play Tosca with the Florida Orchestra. Mike's trombone quartet is gearing up for another set of tours of Texas, Pennsylvania and New York.
Matt Marks is hard at work on his new Christian electronica musical, "The Little Death" which is going to get its premiere at the Fringe Festival. His new music ensemble, Alarm Will Sound is ramping up their recording for their next CD, and Matt's own arrangement of the Beatles "Revolution #9" is going to be featured on several of their upcoming concerts.
